Video Games ARE Good For Children

Sometimes the line between \"educational software\" and \"video games\" gets quite blurry. The concept of course is that if kids are having fun, they won\'t notice they are learning in the process. \r\nWe are eagerly awaiting our order of Edalive Software with groovy graphics and titles such as \"Baggin the Dragon\". Cleverly incorporated into these programs are different levels of word problems relating to maths and spelling.

I agree in principle, it is the car racing games that are different. I believe they are violent (for example spectacular slow motion replays of smashes). They glorify break neck speeds and competition with little or no eductation of the danger in the real world. Isn't it all related to the world the child lives in? A child that lives in a family who take an interest and guide their attitudes and beliefs is going to respond to computer games in a different way to child who have the computer as their full time nanny.
