The moment I fell in love with Macs...

After some serious in-house 12th hour negotiations, a second hand iMac was bought off ebay for $62. My brother and I went to pick it up. A beautiful blueberry blue iMac 333. I bid on it in complete ignorance of all the nuances of the different colours and specs of the iMacs. We bought this particular baby because it had been upgradeed with a bit extra memory to 288 MB.
We managed to sneak it into the study and prepared to set it up as a test run. We needed to make sure it was all working before my son's birthday.
Here's what happened and why I love Mac's sooooooooo much.
We plugged it in and turned it on. This was very easy to do, no brain power required. But wait - there's more! To get onto the internet, I took the cable from our broadband router and plugged it into the Mac. I launched Safari and that was it!!!!
My DH looks across at me and says "what are you doing?"
I look back and state very calmly "I'm surfing the net!"
DH: "You're on?"
Me: "Yep."
DH: "Just like that???"
Me: "Yep."
DH: "unbelievable!!!!!"
Me: "Yep."
Don't even ask me about the TWO DAYS it took when I was in charge of a school network to get Windows NT to connect using a dial up internet account! I refuse to go there!!!!!!!!!

My heart belongs to Mac because it really is "plug and play" not "plug and answer the unintuative questions in 10,000 annoying little dialogue boxes and then install from the disk anyway, but don't forget to reboot"!

After this I discovered there are several sites which help identify your model of iMac.
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/index.html
http://www.lowendmac.com/macdan/05/0202.html
http://www.lowendmac.com/imacs/imac-d.shtml

The frightening thing is that the iMac is older than my ex-gateway and yet works as if it were brand new. This is definitley one of the times I should have put my foot down and demanded a coloured one!!!!!!!!!!
